The Space Between

With our heads so often buried in our phones, we are always looking down, instead of up and around. We should acknowledge where creativity truly flourishes, the places we inhabit, in the space between soaring expectations and grounded reality.

The Space Between was created to reinforce an appreciation for the seemingly mundane. The familiar imagery encourages observation of the beauty in the simple things, like clouds up in the sky, or snowflakes falling onto the ground below. As primary fabricator for this project, my role was to capture the lazy majesty of clouds errantly wandering through the sky. This effect was captured with a soft cotton exterior, that almost seems warm and inviting, disguising the torrential lightning raging within. This juxtaposition of a soft shell with the warm glow inside brings the clouds to life with a surreal beauty, mirroring their colorful appearance in the diminishing light of the setting sun.

This installation was originally showcased in the ATLAS Expo 2023, and was later moved to the BTU Lab where it was originally created.
